Serenity at Coconut Bay is on the Atlantic coast at Vieux Fort, only a few kilometres from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF). The drive takes 10 to 20 minutes, which makes it one of the shortest transfers on the island. The fare is $83 for the whole vehicle rather than per person, covering up to three passengers. The drive from Hewanorra to Coconut Bay

There is not much drive to describe, which is the appeal. The road leaves the airport and runs east along the south coast, past the edge of the runway and out towards the bay, and you are at the resort entrance within a few minutes. No mountain roads, no hairpins, no hour and a half in a vehicle after a long flight.

Traffic is rarely a factor here. Vieux Fort is a small town and the only slow moments are around the town centre in the middle of the day.

One thing to get right at booking. Serenity shares its site and its entrance road with the family side of Coconut Bay, and the two check in separately. Name the one on your reservation and the driver takes you to the correct reception rather than the one next door.

The short distance also changes the trip home. Where guests in the north need a pickup before dawn for a midday flight, here you can leave the resort well after breakfast and still be at the counter in good time.

Around Vieux Fort and the south coast

This is the windward side of the island, so expect surf and a steady breeze rather than flat Caribbean calm. The coastline here is the reason kite surfers come to St Lucia at all.

Sandy Beach, also called Anse de Sables, is the long stretch nearby where the kite and windsurf operators are based. Off the point lie the Maria Islands, a nature reserve with species found nowhere else, visited by arrangement. Moule à Chique, the headland at the southern tip, has the lighthouse and a view back along both coasts, and it is a short run from the resort.

Vieux Fort town has the largest supermarkets in the south, useful if you want supplies. For the sights, the Gros Piton trailhead at Fond Gens Libre is around forty minutes away, and Soufriere, Sulphur Springs and Diamond Falls are about an hour north, which makes a comfortable day trip with a driver.

Yes. SLU sits just outside Castries, and the fare from there is $110 for the whole vehicle, covering up to three passengers. Hewanorra handles a modest number of flights a day rather than constant traffic, so it is quieter than people expect from the map.

What time should I leave for my flight home?

Far later than guests staying up north. Allow airport check-in plus the short drive, and we will give you an exact time when you book the return.

Can we reach the Pitons from here?

Yes. Soufriere is about an hour north, and the Gros Piton trailhead is roughly forty minutes, which makes this a practical base for the climb.

What is there to do nearby?

Sandy Beach for kite surfing, the Maria Islands reserve offshore and the lighthouse at Moule à Chique, all within a short drive.
