St Lucia villa and Airbnb airport transfers need three things a resort pickup doesn't: an exact location pin, your host's phone number and a grocery stop. Send all three to your driver before you fly and arrival day is easy. Skip them and you could be on a dark hillside at 8pm, phoning a host who isn't picking up.
Resort guests land and someone else handles everything. Villa guests land with a WhatsApp message from the host, directions that mention "the yellow house after the second bend" and an empty fridge. We pick up villa and Airbnb guests every week, and these are the things hosts forget to tell you.
There's no front desk, no porter and no resort shuttle. Many St Lucia homes have no street number, so directions rely on landmarks. Airbnb only shows the exact address once your booking is confirmed, and even then the pin can land on the wrong side of a hill. Add a check-in time, a lockbox code and a steep driveway, and a simple airport run suddenly has several moving parts. Which villa area you're in also changes the drive time a lot.
Send this once and nobody has to stand in arrivals reading directions aloud.
A villa kitchen saves money only if there's food in it. Ask for a grocery stop when you book, not when you're already in the car. For villas in the south, Soufriere or along the west coast, the Massy Stores supermarkets in Vieux Fort are minutes from Hewanorra. For villas in the north, there are big supermarkets in Rodney Bay and around Castries close to the end of your drive. Allow 20 to 30 minutes for the stop: water, breakfast, something for the grill and, let's be honest, rum.
Landing late? Supermarkets close in the evening, so ask your host for a small welcome pack and shop the next morning.
Most long-haul flights land at Hewanorra in the afternoon. Add the drive and a grocery stop, and you usually arrive close to the standard check-in time. Landing early? Ask your host about dropping bags early. Landing after dark? Hillside driveways are rarely lit, so this is the one time you really want a driver who has the pin and has already spoken to your host. Our guide to late-night arrivals at UVF covers the options after 8pm.
Estate roads can be narrow, steep and one lane in places. Four suitcases, two carry-ons and six bags of groceries won't fit in a small sedan. Tell us your luggage and the road conditions and we'll send a vehicle that makes it up the hill on the first try.
A villa has no taxi desk, and there's no Uber on the island. Most guests either have a rental car delivered to the villa the next morning or keep a reliable driver on WhatsApp for the week. Still comparing stays? Read resort vs villa in St Lucia, and before booking a rental, check whether Airbnb in St Lucia is safe.
Can a driver find an Airbnb with no street address? Yes, with a location pin and your host's number. The listing name alone is not enough.
Does a villa transfer cost more than a resort transfer? No. The price is set by the area, the same as for a nearby resort.
Can we stop for groceries on the way? Yes. Ask when you book so the stop is planned into your pickup.
What if we arrive before check-in? Ask your host about an early bag drop, or use the extra time for a longer grocery stop.
Do we need a 4x4? For your transfer, we choose the vehicle. For a rental, it depends on your villa's road.
Send us your flight number, your villa's location pin, your host's number and whether you want a grocery stop. We handle the directions, the hill and the bags, so the first thing you open is the front door.
