The Gros Piton hike is the climb most visitors to St Lucia talk about long after they fly home. The trail rises about 770 metres from the village of Fond Gens Libre, near Soufriere, to a summit with views over Petit Piton, the coastline and, on a clear day, St Vincent. It is steep, hot and completely worth it.

What makes or breaks the day is everything around the climb. From most resorts the drive takes up to two hours each way, and after four or five hours on the trail the last thing you want is to look for a ride or wait at the roadside. That is the part we take care of.

This is a private Gros Piton drive, not a shared tour. Your own driver collects you in a clean, air-conditioned car, takes you to the trailhead, waits for the whole hike, and has cold water and a cold towel ready when you come down. Just you, your group and your driver, for the whole day.

$400 per car, round trip, for up to 4 people. One fixed price from anywhere on the island, with your driver waiting for the entire hike.

• 5 to 8 people: add $25 per extra person and we send a larger vehicle

Please note: the trail fee is not included. The Gros Piton trail is run by the local community, and every hiker pays $50 per person at the park office. That fee includes your certified trail guide, who is required for every climb. We tell you up front, so there are no surprises at the gate.

How it works

2. Early pickup. We confirm your time on WhatsApp. We recommend an early start so you climb before the midday heat.
3. Meet your guide. At the trailhead you pay the trail fee and meet your certified guide. Your driver stays with the car.
4. Climb at your pace. Most hikers take 4 to 5 hours up and down, with rest stops along the way.
5. Cool down and ride home. Your driver is waiting with cold water, a cold towel and the air conditioning already on.
