About This Tour
Guided hike up Gros Piton, St Lucia's UNESCO World Heritage peak, with a required local guide, a rainforest trail and huge summit views over Soufriere and the sea. Resort pickup available.
Gros Piton is the taller and more climbable of St Lucia's twin volcanic peaks, rising about 770 metres above Soufriere. The climb begins at the Fond Gens Libre trailhead, where a certified local guide is required and included in the hike.
The trail climbs steadily through rainforest, with a steep rocky stretch near the top. Most hikers reach the summit in around two hours and come back a little quicker, so plan roughly four to five hours in total with breaks. The reward is a sweeping view across Petit Piton, Soufriere, the coastline and the Caribbean Sea.
This is a moderate to challenging hike. A basic level of fitness helps, and closed shoes, water and sun protection are essential. An early morning start is best, both for cooler air and clearer views.
