Marigot Bay Sun Villa is at Marigot Bay on the central west coast, roughly 55 km from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF). The drive takes 55 to 65 minutes. The fare is $110 for the whole vehicle rather than per person, covering up to three passengers. Families of up to 5 (up to 3 adults and 2 children) add $25 per extra person, while groups of 4 or more adults, 3 or more children, or 6 or more people are charged our group rate, shown when you choose your passengers.

The drive from Hewanorra to Marigot Bay

The quickest way north runs up the Atlantic side. From Vieux Fort the Micoud Highway passes through Micoud and Dennery, climbs into rainforest at Barre de l'Isle, the ridge across the middle of the island, then drops through the Cul de Sac valley into Castries. From there it is about twenty minutes south on the west coast road.

Castries is where delays come from, mainly weekday rush hours, 7am to 9am inbound and 4pm to 6pm outbound.

The turn for Marigot is easy to miss and the road into the bay is steep and narrow. Villas sit on the hillsides above the water, so the last stretch is a climb on lanes with tight bends and no signposts. Send us the villa name and a contact number for whoever is meeting you.

Around the bay

Marigot is a deep, sheltered inlet with steep green hills on both sides, long used by sailors as a hurricane hole. Restaurants and charter boats line the north side, and the small beach sits on the spit opposite, reached by a ferry that crosses in about a minute.

It has a small piece of film history too. The bay was used as a location for the 1967 Doctor Dolittle film, which is where the name of the bar across the water comes from, and it is still the kind of place people point a camera at without thinking.

Anse La Raye is about ten minutes south and holds its fish fry on Friday evenings. Castries is roughly twenty minutes north, and Soufriere and the Pitons are around 45 minutes down the coast, or a more comfortable trip by boat from the bay itself.

Two practical notes

If you want a car during the stay, we can deliver it to the villa. It saves driving the descent into the bay on arrival day, which is not the introduction to St Lucian roads most people would choose after a long flight.

And pack insect repellent for the evenings. The bay is green, sheltered and close to mangrove water, which is lovely by day and means a few mosquitoes around dusk, particularly on a hillside terrace. It is a small thing that makes the first evening more comfortable.
