UVF Airport to Gros Islet Private Transfer

Gros Islet is at the northern end of St Lucia, roughly 76 km from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF). The drive takes 80 to 95 minutes, one of the longest runs on the island. The fare is $132 for the whole vehicle rather than per person, covering up to three passengers. The drive from Hewanorra to Gros Islet

The route north runs up the Atlantic side. From Vieux Fort the Micoud Highway passes through Micoud and Dennery, climbs into rainforest at Barre de l'Isle, the ridge across the middle of the island, then drops through the Cul de Sac valley into Castries. The coastal highway carries on north past Choc Bay and Bois d'Orange, through Rodney Bay, and into the village.

Castries is where time goes on a weekday, 7am to 9am inbound and 4pm to 6pm outbound. The village is the other pinch point, with narrow streets, several of them one way, laid out for a fishing village rather than for hire cars with luggage.

Friday is the one to plan around. The street party closes roads in the village centre from the evening onwards and no vehicle gets through. If you land on a Friday afternoon, tell us, and your driver will take you as close as the barriers allow and help with the bags from there. It is a short walk, but better known in advance.

Around Gros Islet

The village sits at the top of Rodney Bay, a working place with its church square, small shops, rum shops and local restaurants, and a beach running south towards the marina.

Pigeon Island National Landmark is a short distance north along the causeway, with the fort ruins and two sheltered beaches. Rodney Bay, with Reduit Beach, the restaurant strip, Baywalk Mall and the supermarkets, is five to ten minutes south. Cap Estate is ten to fifteen minutes further north.

Friday night is what the village is known for beyond the island. The street party has run for decades, it is loud and informal, and the food comes off grills in the street. The rest of the week Gros Islet is quiet by comparison, which surprises people who know it only by reputation.

Soufriere and the Pitons are 90 minutes to two hours south, so plan a full day with a driver.

Parts of it, yes, though most guests take a short drive to the restaurant strip and Reduit Beach rather than walking it in the heat.

Quiet. It is a working village with local shops and restaurants, and the Friday reputation does not reflect a normal Tuesday.
