Morne Manor sits on the Morne, the hillside above Castries, about 62 km from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF). The drive takes 60 to 75 minutes. The fare is $110 for the whole vehicle rather than per person, covering up to three passengers. Families of up to 5 (up to 3 adults and 2 children) add $25 per extra person, while groups of 4 or more adults, 3 or more children, or 6 or more people are charged our group rate, shown when you choose your passengers.
Your driver meets you inside the arrivals hall with a sign showing your name, takes the luggage and has you on the road minutes after customs. The rate is fixed when you book.
Nothing is charged online and there is no deposit.
The drive from Hewanorra to the Morne
The route runs north up the Atlantic side. From Vieux Fort the Micoud Highway passes through Micoud and Dennery, climbs into rainforest at Barre de l'Isle, the ridge across the middle of St Lucia, then drops through the Cul de Sac valley towards Castries.
The last stretch turns up from the edge of the city and winds up the hillside in a series of bends, the harbour opening out behind you as you climb. It is short but slow, and it carries commuter and school traffic on weekday mornings, so we plan the pickup around your flight.
A hill worth knowing about
Most guests book the Morne for the view. It is worth knowing what you are looking at.
This hill was fought over for two centuries. The French and British took and retook it as the island changed hands more than a dozen times, and the fortifications remain. Fort Charlotte sits at the top, the Inniskilling Monument marks the 1796 assault in which a British regiment took the ridge, and the old barracks below now house Sir Arthur Lewis Community College.
That name is the other thing worth knowing. Arthur Lewis, born in Castries, won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1979. Derek Walcott, also born in Castries, won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1992. Two laureates from an island of under 200,000 people, both from the town below this hill, which is a record no country of comparable size comes close to.
It is a short walk or drive from most of the properties up here to see the fort, the monument and the view in one go.
Around the Morne and Castries
The city centre, the Central Market and Derek Walcott Square are five to ten minutes downhill, and the cruise terminals at Pointe Seraphine and La Place Carenage about ten, which makes this a practical base before or after a sailing.
There is no beach on the hill. Vigie Beach is roughly ten minutes down, Choc Bay a little further north, and Vigie's George F. L. Charles Airport about fifteen minutes for regional connections. Walking down into town is possible, but the return is a steep climb in the heat.
Marigot Bay is twenty five minutes south and Soufriere around an hour and a quarter, so the south of the island works comfortably as a day trip.

Frequently asked questions
I am flying into SLU George Charles Airport. Can you collect me?
Yes. SLU sits just outside Castries, and the fare from there is $35 for the whole vehicle, covering up to three passengers. Families of up to 5 (up to 3 adults and 2 children) add $25 per extra person, while groups of 4 or more adults, 3 or more children, or 6 or more people are charged our group rate, shown when you choose your passengers. Select SLU under "Your airport" to see the price and book. Your driver tracks your flight and waits for you, with the same fixed price on the return trip.
What is there to see on the Morne?
Fort Charlotte at the top, the Inniskilling Monument, the old barracks now used as a college, and the view over the harbour and Vigie peninsula.
Is the Nobel Prize story true?
Yes. Arthur Lewis took the economics prize in 1979 and Derek Walcott the literature prize in 1992, both born in Castries, below this hill.
Can we walk down into town?
Downhill, yes. The climb back in the heat is another matter, so most guests arrange a lift at least one way.
Where is the nearest beach?
Vigie, about ten minutes down, with Choc Bay just beyond it.
What if my flight is delayed?
We track it and update your driver, who waits. No extra charge and the booking stands.
How do I pay?
