Windjammer Landing to UVF airport is about 60 km and 90 minutes by road, and longer when Castries traffic is bad. Check-out is at 11am, but for most flights home you'll leave before or after that. Leave about 5 hours before your flight, and book the return ride when you book your arrival, not on checkout day.
Windjammer sits on the hillside above Labrelotte Bay, just north of Castries. It's a beautiful spot and a long way from the airport. Hewanorra is at the far southern tip of the island, and every trip between the two goes through Castries. We drive this route all the time, so here's what the brochure leaves out.
The resort says about 90 minutes, and on a clear road that's right. The route follows the east coast highway through Dennery, then over the hills into Castries and north to Labrelotte Bay. Castries is where timing goes wrong. One owner who has been visiting for over 20 years wrote in late 2025 that the drive "took us over 2 hours" because of traffic. Weekday mornings around 7 to 9am and afternoons around 4 to 6pm are the slow windows.
Most long-haul flights land in the afternoon, so arrivals often hit the evening rush. Eat something at the airport, and don't book a dinner reservation for 6pm on your first night.
Groceries. Many Windjammer villas have full kitchens. The on-site mini-mart charges to your room, which is handy for milk and snacks. For a proper shop, ask your driver to stop at the supermarkets around Castries or Gablewoods Mall, a few minutes before the resort. Plan it when you book.
Your villa might be up the hill. Hilltop villas sit on steep, uneven paths. The resort's free shuttle runs 24/7 from the lobby to the villas, so let your driver drop you and the bags at reception.
Book the ride home now. Resort transfers and good drivers book up in high season, and checkout morning is too late to find a reliable car for a 90-minute run. Our St Lucia taxi rates list shows what the route typically costs.
Check-out is at 11am. The drive is 90 minutes, international check-in closes well before departure, and hilltop guests need the shuttle down to the lobby first. Here's when to leave:
| Your flight leaves UVF at | Leave Windjammer by |
|---|---|
| 11am | 6:00am |
| 1pm | 7:45am (beat the Castries rush) |
| 3pm | 10:00am |

| 7pm | 2:00pm |
Our rule for Windjammer guests: leave 5 hours before your flight. Book the resort shuttle down to reception 15 minutes before pickup.
Flying in the afternoon or evening? Check out at 11am, leave your bags with the resort's luggage storage and enjoy one last swim. Keep a change of clothes in your hand luggage. Our Hewanorra departure guide explains what happens once you reach the airport.
Shared shuttles are priced per person and stop at other hotels along the way. The Castries hotel strip has plenty of them, so the ride can stretch well past 90 minutes. We break down the numbers in Hewanorra airport shuttle vs private transfer. If time matters more than money, the resort also arranges helicopter transfers, covered in our St Lucia helicopter transfer guide.

What time should I leave Windjammer for a 3pm flight? By 10am.
Can we stop for groceries on the way from the airport? Yes. Ask when you book and we'll plan the stop near the end of the drive.
Book both ways together: a fixed price per car, your driver tracking your flight, a grocery stop if you want one, and a set pickup time on departure day so checkout morning is calm. Round trips also cost less.
