To get from Hewanorra Airport to Cap Maison, most guests go by road: about 90 minutes to 2 hours to the very northern tip of St Lucia. The helicopter is fastest, the water ferry is the most memorable, and a car by road is the best value. For a couple, the costs range from about $132 to over $1,000, so here's what each one actually gets you.
Cap Maison sits in Cap Estate, as far from Hewanorra as you can get without swimming to Martinique. The resort lists five ways to get there and we drive this route regularly, so here's a plain-English version of the choice.
The road runs up the east coast through Dennery, over the hills into Castries, then north through Rodney Bay to Cap Estate. Transfer listings quote 75 to 105 minutes. Travel agents say 2 hours. Both are right, depending on Castries traffic, especially weekday evenings when most long-haul flights land. The road is winding in places, so if anyone gets carsick, read our winding roads guide before you fly.
The resort's own car costs $120 plus tax for up to three people (premium $150, luxury $270). A private transfer with us is a fixed $132 per car, and the price is confirmed before you fly.
The shared helicopter flies from Hewanorra to the northern airport (SLU) in about 10 minutes, followed by a 20-minute car ride to the resort. It costs $202 per person plus $45 for the car, so $449 for a couple, and private charters cost far more. The views are incredible. The catches: helicopters don't fly after dark, bags have weight limits, and you still clear immigration at Hewanorra first. Our helicopter transfer guide covers the fine print.
A short taxi takes you to the Vieux Fort dock, then a boat runs up the coast. Seats cost $138 to $175 per person, including the taxis, drinks and light snacks. It takes about the same time as the road but feels like the holiday has already started. It's best on a calm day for anyone who prefers waves to bends.
$950 for up to four people, plus tax. It's fast, private and memorable, and very much a special-occasion choice.
| Option | Total for 2 | Door to door |
|---|---|---|
| Private car (TripCarib) | $132 | 90 min to 2 hours |
| Resort car, regular | $120 plus tax | 90 min to 2 hours |
| Resort car, luxury | $270 plus tax | 90 min to 2 hours |
| Water ferry | $276 to $350 | About 80 min plus dock transfers |
| Shared helicopter | $449 | About 45 min with check-in and car |
| Private speedboat | $950 plus tax | Fastest by sea |
Our honest verdict: the helicopter is worth it if you land in daylight, travel light and are celebrating. For everyone else, a private car with cold water and a driver who knows Cap Estate is the smart choice, and the $300 you save covers a sunset dinner at Rock Maison.
If you connect through another Caribbean island, SLU is about 20 minutes from Cap Maison, and the resort's own car from there is only $45. Our UVF vs SLU guide explains when the extra connection is worth it.
Cap Estate is the farthest point from Hewanorra, so leave about 5 hours before an international flight. That means 9:45am for a 3pm departure, and earlier on weekday mornings because of Castries traffic. Our Hewanorra departure guide has the full timings.

Does the water ferry go straight to Cap Maison? No. Taxis connect you from the airport to the dock and from the boat to the resort. Both are included in the ferry price.
Before booking any transfer, check what to confirm before you pay, so the price you see is the price you pay.
A fixed price per car, your flight tracked, your name on a sign in arrivals, and cold water for the drive north. Book both ways together and save on the return.
