Bay Gardens Inn is in Rodney Bay, at the northern end of St Lucia and roughly 75 km from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF). The drive takes 80 to 95 minutes, one of the longest transfers on the island. The fare is $132, which covers the vehicle rather than each seat, for up to three passengers. Each additional passenger is $25, up to a maximum of eight.

The drive from Hewanorra to Rodney Bay

The quickest way north is the east coast. From Vieux Fort the Micoud Highway runs through Micoud and Dennery with the Atlantic on your right, then climbs into rainforest at Barre de l'Isle, the ridge across the middle of the island, and drops through the Cul de Sac valley into Castries.

From Castries the coastal highway carries you north past Choc Bay and Bois d'Orange to the Rodney Bay junction. That last stretch is the busiest road in the country. It slows into Castries between 7am and 9am, out of it between 4pm and 6pm, and around Rodney Bay in the early evening as the restaurants fill.

The Inn sits just off the main road rather than on the marina or the beachfront, so the final turn is short. One thing worth flagging when you book: there are several Bay Gardens properties within a few minutes of each other in Rodney Bay. Around Bay Gardens Inn

This is the part of St Lucia where you can leave your room and walk somewhere. Reduit Beach is a short walk away, and the restaurant strip, Baywalk Mall, supermarkets, pharmacies and ATMs are all within easy reach on foot. Guests of the Inn generally have use of the group's beach facilities, which is worth confirming directly with the hotel when you check in.

Pigeon Island National Landmark is about ten minutes north by road, with its fort ruins and two small beaches. Gros Islet village next door holds its street party on Friday nights. Cap Estate, at the top of the island, is quieter and more spread out.

The thing to plan for is distance to the south. Soufriere and the Pitons are 90 minutes to two hours away, so treat that as a full day out rather than a morning trip. Plenty of guests book a driver for the day rather than drive it themselves.

I am flying into SLU George Charles Airport. Can you collect me?

Yes. SLU sits just outside Castries, and the fare from there is $40 for the whole vehicle, covering up to three passengers. Families of up to 5 (up to 3 adults and 2 children) add $25 per extra person, while groups of 4 or more adults, 3 or more children, or 6 or more people are charged our group rate, shown when you choose your passengers. There are several Bay Gardens hotels. Will my driver know which one?

Yes, as long as you name it when you book. They are close together in Rodney Bay, so the property name matters more than the area.

Can I walk to the beach?

Reduit Beach is a short walk from the Inn. The restaurants, mall and supermarkets are walkable too, which is unusual for St Lucia.

Is there a faster route from the airport?

Not meaningfully. The east coast highway is the quickest way north, and the time comes from the distance and the traffic near Castries rather than the road itself.

What if I land at night?

We track your flight and the driver waits. The highway north is well used after dark and the drive is the same, just quieter.

How early should I leave for a morning flight home?

Earlier than the drive time suggests. We will recommend a pickup that allows for Castries traffic when you book the return.
