Sugar Beach sits in the Val des Pitons, on the strip of coast between Gros Piton and Petit Piton just south of Soufriere. The drive from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) takes about an hour, and closer to an hour and fifteen minutes if the coast road is busy or the weather is against you. The fare is $110. That is the price of the whole vehicle, not a price per person, and it covers up to three passengers. Each additional passenger is $25, up to a maximum of eight.
Your driver is standing inside the arrivals hall when you come through customs, holding a sign with your name on it. He takes the luggage and you are on the road within a few minutes. No taxi rank, no shuttle desk, no working out what a fair price should be while your bags sit on the pavement.
Nothing is charged online and there is no deposit. You pay the driver in cash when you arrive.
The drive from Hewanorra to Sugar Beach
The route leaves Vieux Fort and follows the south and west coast through Laborie, Choiseul and the hills above Canaries. It is sealed road all the way, but it climbs, drops and doubles back through fishing villages, banana fields and forest, with few straight stretches. The map makes it look like a short hop. It is not. Anyone quoting you thirty minutes is reading a map rather than remembering the road.
The good part comes late. As the road comes over the high ground south of Soufriere, the valley opens up and both Pitons appear at once, framing the bay below. Most people ask to stop, and there is a safe place to pull in for a photo.
Sugar Beach is reached before Soufriere town, not after it, which surprises guests who have been told everything is in Soufriere. The turning drops off the main road and the entrance drive is a steep, narrow descent with tight hairpins running down into the valley. There is a gatehouse at the top where your arrival is checked, then the run down to reception. We send a vehicle suited to the gradient.
If you are landing in the evening, the coast road has long unlit sections and the descent has none at all, so allow a little extra time and expect the last ten minutes to feel slower than the rest.
Around Sugar Beach and Soufriere
Petit Piton rises straight out of the sea at the end of the beach, close enough that guests routinely misjudge photographs of it. The bay is calm and good for swimming, and water taxis run from the shoreline into Soufriere and up the coast.
Soufriere town is ten to fifteen minutes back up the hill and has the bank, pharmacy, market and a handful of local restaurants. The questions we get asked most on this route are about Sulphur Springs, the drive-in volcano just outside town, Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens, and the Tet Paul Nature Trail, which gives you the classic view of both Pitons on a walk of under an hour. The Gros Piton trailhead at Fond Gens Libre is around twenty minutes away and needs an early start.
The thing first-timers get wrong is assuming they can stroll out of the resort for dinner or a shop. You cannot. The property sits at the bottom of a long private drive with nothing walkable at the top, so anything outside the gate means transport. Guests who plan a couple of half days with a driver, rather than trying to improvise, get much more out of the location.
Most people staying here do not need a rental car. If you do want one for part of the stay, we deliver it to the resort so you are not driving that descent on your first afternoon with jet lag.

Frequently asked questions
I am flying into SLU George Charles Airport. Can you collect me?
Yes. SLU sits just outside Castries, and the fare from there is $120 for the whole vehicle, covering up to three passengers. Families of up to 5 (up to 3 adults and 2 children) add $25 per extra person, while groups of 4 or more adults, 3 or more children, or 6 or more people are charged our group rate, shown when you choose your passengers. Select SLU under "Your airport" to see the price and book. Your driver tracks your flight and waits for you, with the same fixed price on the return trip.
How long is the drive from UVF to Sugar Beach?
About an hour in ordinary conditions, up to an hour and fifteen minutes with traffic or heavy rain. We quote a range rather than a number we cannot hold to.
Is Sugar Beach the same as Anse Chastanet?
No. They are different properties on either side of Soufriere. Sugar Beach is south of town in the Val des Pitons, Anse Chastanet is north of it. The fare is the same but the drop-off is not, so book the page that matches your reservation.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
We watch the flight and update your driver. He waits. There is no extra charge and the booking stands.
Can I get to Soufriere town from the resort?
Not on foot. It is ten to fifteen minutes by road, or you can take a water taxi from the beach. Tell us if you want a driver for a few hours and we will arrange it.
How do I pay?
Cash to the driver on the day. Nothing is taken online, no deposit.
Can you book my return to the airport?
Yes. Book the return leg as a separate transfer so the pickup details are recorded properly. Many guests turn it into a Sulphur Springs and Diamond Falls half day on the way out.
Book your UVF to Sugar Beach transfer now and we will confirm it by email with your driver assigned.
