Sunset Villa sits on the palm covered spit at Marigot Beach Club, across the water from the marina, about 55 km from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF). The drive takes 55 to 65 minutes. The fare is $110 for the whole vehicle rather than per person, covering up to three passengers. Families of up to 5 (up to 3 adults and 2 children) add $25 per extra person, while groups of 4 or more adults, 3 or more children, or 6 or more people are charged our group rate, shown when you choose your passengers.

The drive from Hewanorra to Marigot Bay

The quickest route north runs up the Atlantic side. From Vieux Fort the Micoud Highway passes through Micoud and Dennery, climbs into rainforest at Barre de l'Isle, the ridge across the middle of the island, then drops through the Cul de Sac valley into Castries. From there it is about twenty minutes south along the west coast.

Castries is the usual hold-up, mainly 7am to 9am inbound and 4pm to 6pm outbound on weekdays.

The turn into Marigot is easy to miss and the descent steep and narrow. Your driver takes you to the pier on the marina side, helps the bags out, and the ferry crosses to the spit in about a minute.

Living on the spit

This is what makes a stay here different from anywhere else on the island, and it is worth planning around rather than discovering.

The spit is effectively car free. Everything arrives and leaves by that short crossing, which is charming and takes a little forethought. Do the food shop before you cross, because carrying bags back over is the part nobody enjoys. The marina side has provisioning shops, and the Castries supermarkets twenty minutes back up the road are the place for a proper stock up. Ask at booking and the driver builds in the stop.

A hire car makes little sense here, since it would sit on the far side of the water all week. Guests who want to see the island do better with a driver, collected from the pier and dropped back there.

The other consequence is the view. The spit faces west across the bay mouth, which is where the villa gets its name, and the sunsets keep people in of an evening rather than crossing for dinner.

Around the bay

Marigot is a deep, sheltered inlet, long used by sailors as a hurricane hole. Restaurants and charter boats sit on the marina side, the sand and the palms on yours.

Anse La Raye is ten minutes south with its Friday fish fry, Castries twenty minutes north, and the Pitons about 45 minutes by road, or a better trip by water from the bay.
