Villa On The Bay sits at Marigot Bay on the central west coast, roughly 55 km from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF). The drive takes 55 to 65 minutes. The drive from Hewanorra to Marigot Bay

The quickest route north runs up the Atlantic side. From Vieux Fort the Micoud Highway passes through Micoud and Dennery, climbs into rainforest at Barre de l'Isle, the ridge across the middle of the island, then drops through the Cul de Sac valley into Castries. From there it is about twenty minutes south along the west coast.

Castries is the usual hold-up, mainly 7am to 9am inbound and 4pm to 6pm outbound on weekdays.

The turn into Marigot is easy to miss and the descent is steep and narrow. Send us the villa name and a contact number for whoever is meeting you, since the lanes around the bay are residential and rarely signposted.

Swimming, boats and the water

A few things about the bay that guests work out late and would rather know early.

The inner bay is calm, but it is a working marina with boats moving through it, so swimming happens at the beach on the spit rather than off the docks. The ferry crosses in about a minute and runs constantly, so the sand is closer than it looks.

The better use of the water is to leave by it. Boats run down the coast from here, and the short trip south to Anse Cochon is the one worth doing, a quiet cove with reef close in and some of the best snorkelling on the island. Further down, the Pitons look better from the water than the road, and it is a half day rather than a full one from Marigot.

With young children, the calm water and the ferry crossing go down well. The lanes are the limitation, steep and narrow with no pavements, so a pushchair is more trouble than it is worth and short hops are best by car.

Around the bay

Marigot is a deep, sheltered inlet, long used by sailors as a hurricane hole, with waterfront restaurants and charter boats on the north side and the beach on the spit opposite.

Anse La Raye is ten minutes south and holds its fish fry on Friday evenings. Castries is twenty minutes north, and Soufriere and the Pitons about 45 minutes down the coast by road.
