Bay Gardens Hotel is in the middle of Rodney Bay, about 75 km north of Hewanorra International Airport (UVF), with a drive of 80 to 95 minutes. The fare is $132 and it buys the vehicle rather than a seat, covering up to three passengers. The drive from Hewanorra to Rodney Bay

The road north leaves Vieux Fort on the Micoud Highway and runs up the Atlantic side through Micoud and Dennery, then climbs into rainforest at Barre de l'Isle, the ridge across the centre of the island, before dropping through the Cul de Sac valley into Castries. From there the coastal highway carries on north past Choc Bay and Bois d'Orange to Rodney Bay.

It is a long ride after a long flight, particularly with children. The vehicle is air conditioned, there is water on board, and if anyone needs a break the driver can stop along the way, either on the highway or at the high point on the ridge where there is a view back over the interior.

Traffic is the only real variable. The stretch around Castries slows between 7am and 9am inbound and 4pm and 6pm outbound, and Rodney Bay itself gets busy in the early evening. The hotel sits just off the main Rodney Bay road with a straightforward entrance, so the last part of the journey is easy even in a larger vehicle.

Around Bay Gardens Hotel

Rodney Bay is the one part of St Lucia where you can walk out of the hotel and reach things. Reduit Beach is close by, and the restaurant strip, Baywalk Mall, supermarkets, pharmacies and ATMs are all within a short walk, which makes a difference if you are travelling with children and do not want to organise transport for every meal.

Pigeon Island National Landmark is around ten minutes north, with the fort ruins and calm water. Gros Islet village next door runs its Friday night street party. Cap Estate at the top of the island is quieter.

Plan the south as a full day. Soufriere, the Pitons and Sulphur Springs are 90 minutes to two hours away, so it is a long outing from here rather than a morning trip. Many guests book a driver for the day instead of driving it themselves, and we can put that together with your transfer.

Can we stop on the way with young children?

Yes. Tell the driver at the start and he will build in a short stop. It is a 90 minute run, so a break part way is normal on this route.

Are child seats really free?

Yes, at no extra cost. Give us the ages when you book so the right seats are fitted before your driver leaves for the airport.

Will all our luggage fit?

Usually, but tell us the number of bags along with the passenger count when you book, especially if you have golf clubs, dive gear or a pushchair, and we will send a vehicle with the room.

Is the hotel walking distance from the beach?

Reduit Beach is a short walk, as are the mall and the restaurants. This is the easiest part of the island to get around on foot.

What if my flight lands late?

We track it and the driver waits. There is no extra charge and the booking stands, however late the arrival.
