Easy Living Villa is in the north of St Lucia, roughly 75 km from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF). The drive takes 80 to 95 minutes. The fare is $132 for the whole vehicle rather than per person, covering up to three passengers. Families of up to 5 (up to 3 adults and 2 children) add $25 per extra person, while groups of 4 or more adults, 3 or more children, or 6 or more people are charged our group rate, shown when you choose your passengers.

The drive from Hewanorra to the north

The route runs up the Atlantic side of the island. From Vieux Fort the Micoud Highway passes through Micoud and Dennery, climbs into rainforest at Barre de l'Isle, the ridge across the middle of St Lucia, then drops through the Cul de Sac valley into Castries. From there the coastal highway continues north past Choc Bay and Bois d'Orange.

Castries is where the time goes, mainly 7am to 9am inbound and 4pm to 6pm outbound, with Rodney Bay slow in the early evening.

Two details help at the villa end. Send us a contact number for whoever is handling your arrival, since northern villa lanes are residential and often unnamed. And tell us if the entrance is up or down a flight of steps from the road, which is common on these hillsides. Knowing in advance means the driver plans for the bags rather than discovering the situation with four suitcases in hand.

Around the villa

The north is the easiest part of the island to base yourself in, though villas here sit on residential slopes rather than in the middle of things, so nothing is within walking distance.

Rodney Bay is the hub, with Reduit Beach, the restaurant strip, Baywalk Mall, supermarkets and pharmacies. Pigeon Island National Landmark, with its fort ruins and two calm beaches, is a short drive, and Gros Islet village holds its street party on Friday nights. Castries and the cruise terminals are about twenty five minutes south.

Something worth considering for a villa stay: rather than booking each run separately, you can keep the same driver for the week. He knows where the villa is after the first trip, knows the gate and the steps, and you deal with one person rather than explaining the address each time. Beach runs, a supermarket trip once you have settled in, dinner in Rodney Bay and a day south all work better that way.

Soufriere and the Pitons are 90 minutes to two hours away, so that is a full day rather than a morning.
