Soufriere is about 35 km from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) on the south west coast, and the drive takes 45 to 60 minutes. The fare is $94. That covers the whole vehicle rather than each seat, for up to three passengers, with each additional passenger at $25 up to a maximum of eight.
Your driver meets you inside the arrivals hall with a sign showing your name, takes the luggage and has you on the road a few minutes after you clear customs. The fare is fixed at the time of booking, so there is nothing to agree at the kerb.
Nothing is charged online and there is no deposit. You pay the driver in cash when you arrive.
The drive from Hewanorra to Soufriere
The road leaves Vieux Fort and runs west through Laborie and Choiseul, then north along the coast through Bois d'Inde into the hills above Soufriere. It is sealed the whole way and the shortest of the main airport routes by distance, but it bends constantly through villages, banana fields and forest, so 35 km takes the best part of an hour.
The stretch guests remember is the descent into the bay. The road comes over the high ground and both Pitons appear at once above the town. There is a safe place to pull in and most people ask to stop for a photo.
In town itself the streets are narrow and one way in places, and the centre gets busy on Saturday mornings around the market and on days when cruise passengers come ashore by tender. If your guesthouse is on one of the tighter streets, the driver may stop at the nearest corner and walk your bags in.
Around Soufriere
Soufriere is a working fishing town, not a resort strip, which is exactly why some people book it and why others are surprised by it. You get the waterfront, the market, small local restaurants and guesthouses, and the Pitons directly overhead.
Sulphur Springs, the drive-in volcano, is five to ten minutes out of town, and Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens is closer still. The Tet Paul Nature Trail gives you the classic two-Piton view in under an hour of walking. For Gros Piton, the trailhead at Fond Gens Libre is around 20 minutes away and needs an early start. Anse Chastanet beach is north of town on a steep unpaved road, and water taxis run from the jetty along the coast.
Two things first-timers get wrong here. Sulphur Springs is uphill and further than it looks, so it is a drive rather than a walk. And Soufriere is a long way from the north of the island, so if you also want Rodney Bay or Pigeon Island, plan a full day for it.

Frequently asked questions
I am flying into SLU George Charles Airport. Can you collect me?
Yes. SLU sits just outside Castries, and the fare from there is $120 for the whole vehicle, covering up to three passengers. Families of up to 5 (up to 3 adults and 2 children) add $25 per extra person, while groups of 4 or more adults, 3 or more children, or 6 or more people are charged our group rate, shown when you choose your passengers. Select SLU under "Your airport" to see the price and book. Your driver tracks your flight and waits for you, with the same fixed price on the return trip.
How far is Soufriere from the airport?
About 35 km, or 45 to 60 minutes. The distance is short but the road is winding, so plan on the full hour.
Can you stop at the Piton viewpoint on the way?
Yes. Tell your driver at the start and he will pull in at the safe spot on the descent. It adds only a few minutes.
Can you reach my guesthouse in the town centre?
In most cases yes. Some of the older streets are narrow and one way, so give us the address when you book and we will send a vehicle that fits.
Is Soufriere walkable?
The town centre is, including the market and waterfront. Sulphur Springs, Diamond Falls and the beaches are not, so allow for transport or ask us about an excursion.
How do I pay?
Cash to the driver on the day. Nothing is taken online and there is no deposit.
Can you book my return to the airport?
Yes, as a separate booking so the pickup address and time are recorded properly. Plenty of guests add a Sulphur Springs stop on the way back.
Book your UVF to Soufriere transfer now and we will confirm it by email once someone has checked your details.
