UVF Airport to Samfi Gardens Private Transfer

Samfi Gardens is in the Soufriere area on the southwest coast, roughly 36 km from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF). The drive takes 45 to 60 minutes. The fare is $94 for the whole vehicle rather than per person, covering up to three passengers. The drive from Hewanorra to Soufriere

The road leaves Vieux Fort heading west, follows the coast through Laborie and Choiseul, then turns north into the hills. It is sealed the whole way and short in distance, but it climbs and bends almost without pause, so the hour is realistic.

The Pitons appear above the bay as the road crosses the high ground, and there is a safe place to pull in for a photograph before the descent.

The final approach is a hill road, narrow in places, as most roads are on this side of the island. We send a vehicle suited to the gradient and the driver takes you to the property rather than the end of the lane.

Around Samfi Gardens

The setting is green and quiet, with the Pitons in view and the town a short drive down. Soufriere has the market, bank, pharmacy, local restaurants and the jetty where water taxis run along the coast to Anse Chastanet and the bays under the Pitons.

Sulphur Springs, the drive-in volcano, is about fifteen minutes away and Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens is beside the town. Less known to most visitors is what lies inland. The road east towards Fond St Jacques climbs into the rainforest reserve, where the walking trails run through proper forest rather than manicured gardens, and the birds are the reason to go early.

The nearest beaches, Malgretoute and Anse Chastanet, are ten to fifteen minutes by road, or reachable by water taxi from the jetty.

Planning an early start

If the Gros Piton climb is on your list, the timings matter more than most guests expect. Guides start early to get you up and down before the heat, so a typical departure from the Soufriere area is somewhere around half past five or six in the morning, with the trailhead at Fond Gens Libre about twenty minutes away.

That is a driver booking rather than something to improvise the night before. Tell us the day you want to climb and we will set the pickup around the start time your guide gives you. The same applies to the rainforest trails inland, which are better walked in the cool of the morning.

Early. Guides set off before the heat, so expect a pickup around half five or six, with roughly twenty minutes to the trailhead at Fond Gens Libre.

Is there a rainforest walk nearby?

Yes, inland towards Fond St Jacques, where the reserve trails run through real forest. Mornings are best for birds and for the temperature.

How far is the beach?

Ten to fifteen minutes by road to Malgretoute or Anse Chastanet, or take a water taxi from the Soufriere jetty.

How far is the town?

A short drive down the hill for the market, restaurants and the bank. It is not a walk you would want to make in both directions.

What if my flight is delayed?
