Paradise Hotel St Lucia is in the Soufriere area on the southwest coast, about 36 km from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF). The drive takes 45 to 60 minutes. The fare is $94 for the whole vehicle rather than per person, covering up to three passengers. Families of up to 5 (up to 3 adults and 2 children) add $25 per extra person, while groups of 4 or more adults, 3 or more children, or 6 or more people are charged our group rate, shown when you choose your passengers.

The drive from Hewanorra to Soufriere

The road leaves Vieux Fort heading west, follows the coast through Laborie and Choiseul, then turns north into the hills. It is sealed the whole way and short in distance, but it climbs and bends almost continuously, so the hour is realistic.

Both Pitons come into view as the road crosses the high ground above the bay, and there is a safe place to pull in for a photograph before the descent. The final approach is a hill road, narrow in places, and we send a vehicle suited to the gradient.

Getting around during your stay

Soufriere is the part of St Lucia with the most to see and the least walkable layout, so how you move around is worth deciding before you arrive.

Group tours run to all the main sights and work well if you like company and a fixed schedule. A private driver suits a couple or a family better in most cases, because you set the departure time, stay as long as you want at each stop and skip whatever does not interest you. For two or three people the difference in cost is often smaller than it looks once you compare it with per person tour pricing.

Either way, the main half day from here covers Sulphur Springs, the drive-in volcano, and Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens, with the Tet Paul Nature Trail added if you want the two-Piton view. A full day goes further afield, and hikers use the Gros Piton trailhead at Fond Gens Libre, about twenty minutes away, with an early start.

Around the hotel

Soufriere town is a short drive, with the market, bank, pharmacy, local restaurants and the jetty where water taxis run along the coast to Anse Chastanet and the bays under the Pitons. The water taxi is the better way to reach a beach from here, and a good deal more scenic than the road.

Malgretoute and Anse Chastanet are the nearest beaches by car, ten to fifteen minutes off. The town is busiest on Saturday mornings and when cruise passengers come ashore by tender, so an early start suits anything you want to do there.

How do we get to a beach?

Water taxi from the Soufriere jetty is the pleasant way. By road, Malgretoute and Anse Chastanet are ten to fifteen minutes.

What is the road like at the end?

Narrow and steep in places, as most roads are on this side of the island. Our drivers run them daily.
