The ride from SLU airport to Rodney Bay, Gros Islet and Cap Estate takes 10 to 25 minutes, and fares typically run $20 to $35 per car. That's the good news. The catch is that SLU sits in Castries, so weekday evening traffic heading north can double the drive. Pre-book if you land late or after a regional connection.
If you landed at George F. L. Charles (SLU), congratulations. You skipped the 90-minute drive from Hewanorra that most visitors face. SLU handles regional flights: interCaribbean, Caribbean Airlines, LIAT2020 and Winair, with Barbados by far the busiest route. interCaribbean alone flies Barbados to SLU three times a day, and the flight takes about 45 minutes. Most visitors arriving here have connected from a long-haul flight into Barbados, or are island-hopping from Martinique, Antigua or St Vincent.

SLU is in Castries, and the road north runs along the Gros Islet highway past Choc Bay. On weekday evenings, roughly 4 to 6pm, it's busy with commuters heading home to the north. A 15-minute ride to Rodney Bay can take 30 minutes or more. It's not a disaster, but don't book a 6pm dinner for the moment you land.
1. Regional flights run late. Island-hopping schedules slip, and a delay in Barbados becomes a late arrival in Castries. A pre-booked driver tracks the flight. A taxi rank doesn't.
2. Connections sometimes leave bags behind. On a two-flight journey, bags occasionally arrive on the next flight. If yours is missing, report it at the desk before leaving the terminal. Your driver will wait.
3. Late arrivals. SLU is a small airport, and at night you don't want to depend on whoever is still at the rank. There's no Uber in St Lucia to fall back on, so a confirmed pickup matters more at 9pm than at noon.
